The summer that was

September 2, 2013

POD has changed so much since this photograph was taken three months ago.

She’s much taller, the little pot belly has disappeared and her face looks different. Even her smile has altered. Her vocabulary has increased dramatically as has a wonderful imagination. She’s more independent and she knows what she wants – even if it is Peppa Pig! She loves books, colouring, jigsaws and Jo Jingles. She wears big girl pants during the day.

On Christmas Day POD will be three, she’ll no longer be a toddler. Although she’s not at school you do sense the summer is over even with the sun still shining. We’ve not had a summer break but we’ve spent much more time together. Running our own business has meant we’ve been able to have fun in the garden after nursery. Not every day but most days.

POD has taken full advantage of her playhouse with it being so sunny. Preparing food for her dollies or, if you were invited in, offering a dish of garlic and asparagus. She’s loved being ‘in the sky’ when she’s on her swing and found walking up her slide highly entertaining.

Then bang it’s September, the start of another new school year. You can’t help but think about POD’s education. At nursery she plays with children her own age, she explores her creativity and she learns. But how long will she stay there for? Where will she go next? When will she start school? Where will she go to school? All these questions need answering in the coming months.

For the moment though, let’s just reflect on what was a fabulous summer it was.

It amazing how much they change in just a few short months, and they really do lose their ‘toddler’ bodies and become proper little girls. Enjoy every moment, as I suspect you;re right, it’ll be school days before we know it!

It’s incredible isn’t it. Still amazed this photograph was only taken 3 months ago 🙂

They keep growing, I find it hard to believe my son is now 12. It seems only yesterday he was tiny. Love the hat

    • Charly Dove September 2, 2013 at 7:06 pm

It’s mad isn’t it. Everyone says they grow so fast and they really do. There’s a lot of love for the hat 🙂

Oh that hat! I want to sing “Where did you get that hat, where did you get that smile?” Lovely post xx

It was and still is a super summer. One I hope will be remembered in many years to come. Oh the transition from toddler to pre-schooler is a wonderful one

    • Charly Dove September 2, 2013 at 10:06 pm

You’re exactly right it still is a super summer! The transition over the last 3 months has just been incredible 🙂

  • nortonmum September 2, 2013 at 3:05 pm

That is a lovely photo and nearly 3 is such a fun age. I had so much fun with my son when he was a toddler, he’s still lovely and fun but at 13 they don’t want to be around mum so much.

    • Charly Dove September 2, 2013 at 10:10 pm

Thank you, it’s a brilliant age. She’s highly entertaining most of the time! Yours will come round again 🙂

Lovely post. It must be all this lovely weather we’ve had this Summer; they’ve all had huge growth spurts – Lucas is now such a little Big Man – loved reading this post.

Lovely post Charly. They change so fast, my wee girl has gone from tentative toddling to running over the course of the summer, and her language and comprehension are just amazing! It’s such a lovely age, so much fun – toddlers really are very entertaining 🙂 You have such lovely memories of your summer, and so much to look forward to xx

Thank you. She’s changed so fast – no pot belly at all, teeny tiny tummy. And now in knickers a teeny tiny bottom too! She’s getting cheekier though 🙂

  • Faded Seaside Mama September 3, 2013 at 8:29 pm

Lovely picture and some lovely memories of a once in a lifetime summer. I seem to spend forever wondering what I can do to stop them growing up as every stage just seems lovelier and lovelier! Love the idea of garlic and asparagus though!

    • Charly Dove September 4, 2013 at 10:30 am

Thank you Sally. It’s amazing how quickly they change isn’t it. I’m still in shock this photo was only taken 3 months ago! It’s so great they just get lovelier though 🙂

  • Pinkoddy September 3, 2013 at 8:47 pm

Gorgeous post. We have such a full on Summer I’ve not had time to digest it all. Glad you’ve had such great memories.

    • Charly Dove September 4, 2013 at 10:31 am

Thank you. It sounds like you’ve had a really busy one. It will probably only be when things have calmed down a bit you’ll be able to take it all in. Some great memories for you too 🙂

  • Nell Heshram September 4, 2013 at 6:45 pm

I remember this picture. Feels like only the other day! You’re right, it’s best to forget about how things will change and live in the moment. Sounds as though you’ve had a wonderful summer – I’m glad.

    • Charly Dove September 5, 2013 at 8:41 am

I know it’s scary isn’t it!! We were looking at a school website last night *sniff* They grow up so fast don’t they. I know everyone says that 🙂

  • Dragonsfypoppy September 4, 2013 at 8:54 pm

Stunning picture – just beautiful. You must feel so very proud. Lots of questions there too – but I guess the thing is to remember to not to dwell too long on the questions, rather make the most of the times together. Thank you for hosting Charly 🙂

    • Charly Dove September 5, 2013 at 8:43 am

Thank you and you’re welcome! I’m just staggered at how different she looks. Just incredible. We just need to find out what happens with her nursery after the age of three and go from there 🙂

  • Emily September 8, 2013 at 12:01 am

Beautiful picture, they really do change so fast; Fifi is just in that phase between baby and full toddler and as my 4th and final I don’t want to see the baby days end 🙁 xx

    • Charly Dove September 9, 2013 at 3:34 pm

Thank you Emily, the change is incredible. It must fly by even quicker with more than one too (we just have POD). Let’s hope you can hang onto them that bit longer 🙂

  • Jane @ northernmum September 8, 2013 at 10:07 pm

They change so quickly! take lots of photos – my two turned seven when I wasn’t looking!

  • Nichola Fabfortymum September 8, 2013 at 11:42 pm

Oh what a beautiful picture Charly. It has indeed been a summer of reflection for me too and if I’m honest, it still is. Now that my big girl has started pre school, I’m yearning to go back in time to July and just freeze the moment for a bit longer. My baby will be 2 next month and I’m seeing them both suddenly grow up so quickly. It’s scary isn’t it, how quickly we go from carefree baby days, to having to make big decisions about education and sending them out into the world xx
